The Romans
Roman Impact
In the Autumn term we will then move on to our Romans topic by exploring the impact the Roman invasion had on Britain. To start the unit we will have our Roman day when we will welcome an actor from the Treehouse Theatre Company.
Throughout the day they will teach us a play-in-a-day which will explore various areas of the Roman Invasion in Britain. They children will perform their scenes in the afternoon for a whole year group historical drama production.
We will apply the knowledge that we had learnt on the Roman day throughout the rest of the unit when exploring why the Romans invaded Britain, the changes they made when they arrived, how the ancient Britons felt about these changes and what the Romans did to convince the Britons to adapt to the Roman way of life. We also discover who the key people of the era were including Emperor Claudius, Emperor Caesar, Emperor Hadrian and Queen Boudicca.
Roman Legacy
In the Spring term, we will continue our Roman topic by exploring the legacy the Romans left within Britain. We discover different aspects of life that the Romans introduced which we still use today, such as the calendar, money, aqueducts and the sewage system. Furthermore, we explor the Roman introduction of roads to Britain, identifying where these roads were and discovering if we still use these roads today.
