Handwriting
The National Curriculum for Year 2 states the following expectations for children's handwriting:
In Year 3, the children progress onto these expectations from the National Curriculum:
There are many children who still need to focus on printing letters correctly using the correct formation. It is crucial letter formation is accurate before children join letters together. Please remember every child is at a different stage of their writing ability and we aim to work at their level to improve their writing style and presentation.
During Week 1 we work on fine motor skill tracing to assess the children's pencil grip and accuracy. During the next few weeks, we will focus on correct printed letter formation.
Some children will continue to work on forming printed letters accurately. For these children, we will use the Little Wandle formation sheets and resources, whilst the majority of children will work on developing a neat joined handwriting style.
We can send home support handwriting sheets if you would like these to support your child at home.
