Wellbeing evening
Fri 16 Nov 2018Last night we held our first 'Wellbeing evening' this was designed to support parents in the increasingly pressurised world in which we live. The turnout of parents was fantastic and just summed up the volume of concerns that parents have with the increased levels of anxiety and the use of technology that children seem to be facing.
The evening was attended by over 100 parents and the speakers included key members of staff linked to technology and wellbeing within the school and also outside speakers including our PCSO Alex Baldwin and also the Deputy Headteacher from Ringwood Secondary Claire Adams.
The evening had a variety of issues covered looking at the National climate, how adults can support children with anxiety or behavioural concerns, the importance of understanding the dangers online friend requests and what the children can access, the data of children at Poulner and concerns linked to this and finally the importance of being one step ahead and putting in place parental measures and house rules before the issues esculate to a serious nature and consequence.
I think a real strength of the evening was giving parents the time to talk together, share ideas and support each other in doing a great, and tough job of being a parent!
If you would like any further advice or support in this area, please do not hesitate to click on to the Parents page of this site or pop into school and we will do our best to help!

Community Firework Spectacular!
Mon 05 Nov 2018We were delighted to welcome so many families from the school and local community to our annual Fireworks Spectacular! Once again our numbers were well over 1,000 people attending and this year seemed even bigger and better. This is the 18th year of fireworks at Poulner, which is quite some tradition and this year the evening was supported by members of the local Lions club, Ringwood firefighters, Hampshire constabulary Police and our local PCSO officer and Ringwood Brewery. The PTA and Dads club put on brilliant refreshments with the BBQ, Bar, hot drinks, Toffee apples and sweet shop and this year we also welcomed a local trader selling candy floss!
The main fireworks were once again magnificent and a great evenign was had by all!

Dad's Club Pond morning!
Sat 20 Oct 2018This morning the Dad's Club were back again, determined to undertake the final clearance of the pond area.
They achieved a huge amount, clearing and burning the last of the piles of brambles, clearing half of the pond sludge and debris, clearing back more overgrown hedges, building a new three pen compost bin and rescuing a hedgehog!!
They have also managed to lay grass seed so that we can begin to develop new areas for the children to work in.
After half term we will be starting up a Pond development community group to look carefully at how we develop this area and gain the most from it in the coming months and years. If you would like to be a part of this please let the school office know!

The Pond Progress Update
Tue 18 Sep 2018Well, it has been a long time in the making, but the first stage of the Woodland area is nearly complete! Prior to the work starting the pond area was too big, completely overgrown and unsafe for the children to use. Thanks to the PTA funds we began work back in February 2018 to totally renovate this area.
I am pleased to say that the first stage of the work was completed over the summer and with the help of parent volunteers we were able to clear even more of the overgrown site during the morning of 8th September.
The next part of the plan will be to complete the pond fencing and start working with the children and parents on developing this brilliant area further!

Poulner puts on a great show!!!
Sat 15 Sep 2018What a great day! Poulner PTA have done it again with a spectacular entry into Ringwood Carnival! The theme for us was ‘The Greatest Showman’ and huge thanks to Gary Parsons for providing us with a magnificent lorry to build the float on! We had a super turnout from both Poulner Infants and Juniors and the children looked fantastic!
The judges really liked us and our efforts and we were awarded a 2nd place in the large float category and 1st place in the Youth category winning the trophy as well!
We are thrilled and want to thank our amazing PTA parents who make all of this happen!!!

School Games Gold Sports Mark achieved for Poulner Junior School!
Tue 07 Aug 2018We are delighted to confirm that we are now recognsied as a Gold Sports Award School!
This award recognises the schools commitment to sports and inclusion. In order to meet this criteria we had to demonstrate the range of opportunities that we give our children both in and out of school time and I am sure you will agree that it has been great for us to put sports back on the map at Poulner.
We are commited to going even further with sports in 2018/19 and can't wait to offer a wider range of sports and continue our commitment to giving children positive sporting opportunities both in school and out of school, helping them to understand and recognise the benefits of exercise and a healthy body and a healthy mind!

Staff Vs PTA Sport Relief fun!
Thu 22 Mar 2018Today we saw the grown ups taking over a sports court- all in aid of Sports Relief!
The atmosphere was great and it was such a lovely chance for the children to see their teachers, LSA's and parents out on court and having fun!
The idea and match started as fun, but it wasn't long before the competitive streaks came out! The PTA even came with red Sports Relief face paint!
After an exciting two halves, it was the staff who took the victory.
Next challenge has been set for the Summer- anyone up for a game of rounders!!!

World Book Day 2018
Thu 08 Mar 2018Although it was a week later than anticipated due to 'The Beast from the East' snow conditions, World Book Day was in full flow today! The children all dressed up as their favourite book character and were able to talk really confidently about their character. All of the children then explored where, how and who they read to and just why we love reading.
This was followed by a Mystery Read, where children were able to pick from a book selection and then listen to the book with a member of staff who had chosen it!! The most popular were definitely The Hobbit and Gangsta Granny!
During the afternoon the children had an opportunity to take part in the Great British Book Swap! Those children who chose to bring in a book to swap were able to then pick a book from the swap pile to take home as their own and enjoy!
