Poulner stepping up to help the community- local and international!
Wed 23 Oct 2019Poulner families have once again shown their amazing community spirit! Over the last few weeks children have been asked to take part in gathering together food for Ringwood Foodbank. This was part of the school's larger Harvest Festival celebrations. It helped the children to think about how lucky they were to have food to hand and how there were many others in the world who were not so fortunate.
The school also had a speaker in to talk about the Christmas Shoebox appeal. The children really reflected on the concept of Christmas and how much they take for granted. Kayleigh made a comment in assembly which really made other children think, she said ' I don't write a list for Christmas, I'm just grateful for whatever I get.'
Thanks to our birlliant thoughtful and caring families we have managed to send 52 Christmas Shoeboxes to other children around the world.
Proud at Poulner!!!

IMPORTANT- WATER LEAK 9TH SEPTEMBER 2019 ARRANGEMENTS AND INFORMATION FOR PARENTS
Sat 07 Sep 2019On Friday 6th September a water leak was discovered in the main plant room at school. The Site Manager (Mr Christopher) called the relevant engineers, but due to lagging around the pipes the work cannot be undertaken until the lagging has been checked for asbestos by the Hampshire Scientific team. There is only a very small chance that this will happen before Monday and an even smaller chance that the work will be completed by Monday.
This all means that the school building will not have running water or toilets that can be used.
However the community room uses a different pipe/plant and is fully functioning, based on this we will be opening as normal, but will be taking the following measures:
Breakfast club as normal, but only cereal toast options for breakfast.
Community room toilets will be used and adults will operate shuttle runs to these so that children remain safe and with an adult on site.
Additional adults will be on duty at break and lunch to ensure the toilets work well and children are supervised.
Gerry cans of water will be available to children to refill water, however if you can send your child with an extra water bottle this would be helpful.
NO HOT DINNERS- packed lunches for all children.
Pupil Premium children will have the option of a school kitchen made packed lunch.
The repair work will take place in the plant room so children will not be at any risk during any repairs that take place on Monday.
This is not an ideal situation, but I hope you will appreciate the efforts that we are taking to remain open and to cause families minimal disruption.
Please note that the infant school water is fine, so none of this applies to families where they have children at Poulner Infants and I am waiting for clarification, but believe that this also should not affect after school club.
With new families joining our school all the time, we will do our very best to contact them all and get this information to them, but please feel free to share this information and advise them to check on this page for further information.
Gardening morning (Saturday 7th Sept) will run as planned!!

Pond Update and the brilliant work of the Dad's Club!
Sun 14 Apr 2019Throughout March the Dads' Club have been undertaking some major restructuring of the soak away pipes that connect into and out of the pond area. They have been closely monitoring the water levels of the pond and through some pretty thorough research have been able to ascertain that the pond soak away pipe was tilting the wrong way, causing over flooding of the pond area.
Well, after some serious digging they have been able to realign the piping to use the main soak away tank that is buried under the ground in the field and we are now hoping that the pond area can keep to a more stable level and we can really start to develop the area and get it into use with the children.
Our thanks to Jonathan Stone, Sean Brinkman, Paul Kenny, Joe Moorhouse, Nick Beavan, Grant Mackenzie, Jon Buckler, Stuart Cason, James Clarke, Henry Dean, Alex Moorey and Steve Jordan for their stirling efforts in making this happen!

Sports Leaders get inspired by Joe Wicks
Sun 14 Apr 2019On Friday 29th March our Sports Leaders from Years 3, 4 and 5 were lucky enough to be invited to take part in a workout afternoon with Joe Wicks! The afternoon was designed to inspire the children to exercise regularly and he introduced them to the idea of HIIT workouts.
The children had a fantastic afternoon and they are now looking forwards to working with the School Council and Mrs Green to share these ideas and build them into the Active 10 daily activities.

Comic Relief 2019
Fri 15 Mar 2019This year we wanted to support Comic Relief by going crazy with our hair and our faces! We had a great day laughing and sharing hairstyles and red nose face designs and the school council showed their artists side by giving up their break to paint many more faces! We raised approx £220, so thank you everyone and well done! Special well done to Archie Todman in Year 4 who undertook additional chores at home all week and raised a brilliant £23.40! What a great idea Archie!! -
British Values Week 11-15th February 2019
Fri 22 Feb 2019We wanted to help the children to really understand what was meant by British Values. The Values are Respect and Tolerance, Individual Liberty, Democracy and Rule of Law. Each year group focused on one Value and explored what it meant to them and to society, they studied someone who was significant in bringing about this Value in British History and then started creating their own thinking as to which Values they would have should they ever be ruler of their own land! Thanks to Mrs Charter for organising such an interesting week! -
Careers afternoon for Years 5 & 6
Fri 22 Feb 2019As part of the children's PSHE learning we held a careers afternoon for them. Their unit was looking at Hopes and Dreams for their futures and it is very difficult sometimes to have a goal or ambition if you are unaware as to some of the possibilities of careers that are available to them. We would like to thank our parent volunteers for giving up their time to share thier careers with the children. The feedback from the children was incredibly positive and has certainly given them targets and goals to work towards for possible future careers! -

Children In Need
Fri 16 Nov 2018Well done to all of the children today. Their efforts in dressing up in bright, spotty or pudsey gear has raised over £230! Added to that the cake sale takings of over £220, which makes our grand total for Children in Need of over £450!
Thanks to our School Councillors who have been working hard with Mrs Green on planning the day, talking to their classes about the cause and running the cake sale. It is great to see children wanting to make a difference to others both locally, nationally and internationally.
